The passing of a great

I was saddened to hear the news today of the death of Renato Pagliari, who died last week aged 69. For those unfamiliar with Renato he was the voice of the classic Cornetto advert.




But Renato's finest hour came in 1982 when he teamed up with Hilary Lester who changed her name to Reneé for their Christmas number 1 "Save Your Love" which, along with Joe Dolce's "Shaddupa Your Face" was one of the biggest novelty hits of the 1980s. The video was cringe-worthy but there's something so awful about it it's almost good!

Gone to the dogs....

This should probably be filed under "only in America": Dog owners who want to do the responsible thing and have their pet neutered but are worried about how it might affect his self-esteem, or how he looks need worry no more. Neuticles are a prosthetic replacement for his...well bits! Once the vet has snipped off the originals he simply pops a pair of Neuticles in and Fido is as good as new....better in fact, because he looks just as much a man (well man-dog) but he won't embarrass you by getting "friendly" with every dog he sees!

Prices start at just over $100 for the basic model but you could pay over $1000 for a top-of-the-range pair that will look and feel natural (who's going to be feeling them???). It's easy for us to laugh but pet owners in America and beyond seem to think they're a great idea. You could almost say they're the dog's b....maybe not!!

Our Blue Crew get to meet the Red Crew!!

Dublin's Blue Crew were 'Warmly' welcomed at Dublin's Fire Brigade station in Kilbarrack, when they payed an unscheduled visit this week!! The ladies Rebecca And Juile were in their element learning the ropes on what is considered a very tough job!! But they were praised by Firemen Colin and Stephen on how well they handeled everything, and wanted them to sign up for recruitment there and then!!

Big thanks again to the guys and all the rest of staff who made it a brilliant day!!

One small step....and one little question.

It's exactly 40 years since the Apollo 11 mission landed on the moon and Neil Armstrong became the first human to set foot on extra-terrestrial soil. Anyone who's old enough to remember it can tell you where they watched the moon landing; and the phrase "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" has become the most famous phrase in history.

I've found some restored footage online of the landing. In the first piece you'll see Neil Armstrong making his way down the ladder to the lunar surfave. Here's the ing though; if he was the first man on the mon who was filming that?? If you're near the radio I'll tell you on air just after 11am this morning (July 20th). If not check back later afor the answwer!

I have always wondered when this clip would come out. And now it has.

Us Magazine has released never seen before footage of Michael Jackson's 1984 Pepsi Commercial accident. Most of us know the story. Shooting of the commercial was all going to plan but on the 6th take, fireworks went off too early, setting Michael Jackson's hair on fire. He carried on performing unaware of the flames on his head. But he was soon in agony with second and third degree burns on his scalp and body. This incident is what allegedly kicked off his addiction to pain killers and plastic surgery.

I remember when this happened as I was a massive MJ fan as a kid. And I can't stop watching the clip. I can't believe he could still perform as he must have been in so much pain. He truly was a legendary performer.

Painted Pooches

There have been some very strange fashion trends in China over the years. But this is one that I don't see catching on in western countries anytime soon.

An increasing number of owners have started bringing their pooches to grooming parlours for not only a 'cut and blow dry'....but a little repaint job.

The day that changed the world

It's hard to believe that it's 24 years since the Live Aid concerts in Wembley and Philadelphia. It was one of those moments in history where everyone remembers where they were. I was sat at home on the couch for the whole 13 hours with my friend Paul, whose birthday it was (and still is!). Pretty much every major star of the time played at one the two venues.

When you ask people about their favourite moments Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the first things they talk about. Here's the performance on the day.




One artist made an extra bit of history that day by becoming the first person to play at concerts on both sides of the Atlantic on the same day! Here's the piece they did with Phil Collins while he was on Concorde flying to Philadelphia....



The will was there but technology wasn't!!

Dublin's Q1o2's Blue Crew were invited this week to the launch of the Volvo Dun Laoghaire regatta, which is on from the 9th to the 12th of July!!

The will of King Of Pop Michael Jackson has been released. American TV show "Entertainment Tonight" obtained a copy and this is what it looks like... More on this in Dublin's Q102's Showbuzz tomorrow from midday... Shane

Michael Jackson - were you going to any of the shows??

Michael Jackson fans who bought tickets to see the star in concert, are being given the option of getting a refund, or keeping their ticket as a collector's item. They feature one of eight unique designs, which the King of Pop himself created. The tickets printed with the special lenticular process, were inspired and designed by Michael Jackson for the fans attending his shows. This is the actual "oversized" concert ticket, measuring 82mm x 186mm (3.23in x 7.32in) for the 50 This Is It shows at The O2. His hopes were his fans would want to keep the special ticket as a reminder of the memorable evening that they would share together. The lenticular concert tickets feature one of eight unique designs printed via the lenticular printing process. Lenticular printing is a 3D process that can contain animation, multiple photos, morphing or a combination of these. The front of the ticket is the lenticular image and the reverse side is the standard ticket detail including the performer name, tour name, show date, venue, section number, row number, and seat number.

Jackson's funeral is to take place over the weekend and he will be buried at his beloved Neverland Ranch just north of LA. More details on Dublin's Q102's Showbuzz throughout the day - Shane

New Arrivals

Sarah Jessica Parker and Miatthew Broderick have just released this picture of their new twins. Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge were born last Monday to a surrogate mother. Their seven year old son Jamie is also in the picture.

It's a really lovely relaxed family photo but look at the couch they're all sitting on....did they pose in a student falt in Rathmines!!!

We're all stunned here at the news of Michael Jackson's death. No matter what anyone said about his personal life he was one of the great entertainers. Thriller was aground breaking album and the title track gave us one of the most amazing music videlos ever made. It was directed by Hollywood director John Landis and, at the time of its release, was accompanied by a warning that it could scare some viewers!

Blue Crew In Howth!

Robbie, Sam, Ray and Rebeca from Dublin's Q102's Blue crew , were lucky to be in Howth again this week where they gave away tickets for the Ladies Golf Irish Open...
They popped into Deer park golf course and saw Howth castle, while Sam got friendly with the Seals along the pier... All in a days work what?? :)
