There's No Place Quite Like...Carrigstown

Jim Bartley aka Bela from Fair City is the latest Dubliner to take part in our "There's No Place Quite Like Dublin" series... He talks about his love of the area around Dame Street and St Stephen's Green. You can hear it on the air very soon on Dublin's Q102.

The DCU Mens Rugby team held a Swimathon in St.Michaels House Belcamp Swimming Pool last week and of course the Blue Crew gals were there to cheer them on!

He's a very naughty boy!

The small Welsh town of Aberystwyth staged a charity screening of Monty Python's Life Of Brian at the weekend and managed to get Michael Palin and Terry Jones to attend. I wondered why they showed Life Of Brian and how they managed to get two of the films stars to appear at such a low key event. So I did a little digging and it turns out that the Lord Mayor of Aberystwyth is Sue Jones-Davies. Sue played Judith Escariot, Brian's girlfriend, in Life Of Brian and, since the film was banned in the town when it came out, she thought it would be nice to finally show it.

As I recall, there's a scene in the film where Brian and Judith appear at his bedroom window - naked! I'm not sure that's how I'd like to see the Lord Mayor but fair play to her!!

Life Of Brian is one of my all time favourite fims and, as far as I'm concerned, one of the funniest films ever. So I've dug up a clip of the film to remind you just how good it is.

Enjoy!

The Big Saturday Show helps find talent in Dublin!!!!

Ray & me were honoured to be asked to judge Citi Group's annual talent competition along with Ashley from Citi Group. It was all in aid of Daffodil Day, last year the bank managed to raise €45,000 for this amazing cause.
There was tons of talent and some fantastic singing voices on the night (Jenny we're talking to you!) but ultimately the winner came from Cork - it was John's rendition of Joxer that drove the crowd wild and that the judges ultimately agreed was a deserved winner!
Ray decided to adopt a Simon Cowell type persona for the night which meant that his comments were all as nasty as possible which also got the crowd riled!
Thanks so much to everybody who made the Citi's Got Talent competition happen, we can't remember the last time we had such a laugh!

Showbuzz: Meteors 09 - Show-stopping dress!

I went down to the orange carpet to get all the goss for today's showbuzz! There was loads of glamour but I think it's safe to say that model Caprice stole the limelight with her enviable curves and revealing dress!
At 37 Caprice still has a body to die to for! The super-model was still in shock however after her encounter with Podge & Rodge the previous night, she told us that they didn't hold back!

Don't forget the awards are on the telly tonight!

Hi there,

I popped into the city centre and must admit I made a bee-line for the funfair in Merrion Square, best of all the amusements being the Big Wheel!! It was 'wheely' great!! and the views of Dublin city were absolutely stunning. By the way if you look carefully at the photo you can just spot me at the top!!!

Have a great Wednesday!

A Great Day For The Irish

I’m a big fan of the St. Patrick’s Festival, I love that we take a whole weekend to celebrate our Irishness, it’s something that doesn’t happen in too many other countries, Scotland doesn’t have parades and funfairs on St. Andrew’s Day and there’s are probably millions of English people who couldn’t even tell you when St. George’s Day is!

I always loved going into the parade when I was a kid, making sure I had my flag to wave and pinning a bunch of Shamrock to my coat. One thing has always puzzled me though; what’s the difference between Shamrock and Clover; is there any difference at all?
Apparently there is but there’s some debate as to what that difference is! Some people say that Shamrock is smaller than clover; others say Clover has more rounded leaves. Horticulturalists will tell you that Shamrock is much harder to grow than clover, which grows just about anywhere.

Can you tell the difference?

The first picture is of Shamrock

The second is Clover.

What do you reckon, are they one and the same? Leave me a comment and tell me what you think.

Still, I suppose we should be grateful that St. Patrick picked up a Shamrock leaf and not clover…. Otherwise Dublin would be full of Clover Rovers fans!!

Happy St Patrick’s Day

Liam

Hi there,

Mathieu here from Dublin's Q102's Nightcruising, take a look at this picture! Yes the river is bright green!! For over 40 years the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers have been turning the Chicago river green for Chicago's St. Patricks Festival Celebrations. The dye they use is a vegetable based shade called 'Irish Green' and is environmentally friendly, and ironically the dye isn't green at all.... it's orange!!! How Irish is that?!!!

Have a great day.

Since then weve had Mary White, Deputy Leader of the Green Party say that she would take into consideration any ideas that we put forward from our listeners. So far we’ve had a great range of ideas, some including adding an extra euro onto GAA tickets, adding a five cent levy onto chocolate and also taxing Sex!If you have any colourful ideas or suggestions we’d love to hear them! you can text them to us0857 102 102 or you can email studio@q102.ie

HAPPY PATRICK'S WEEKEND!!

Showbuzz - All the single (blonde) ladies!!!!!

Well a weekend of life as a single lady is what Kerry Katona and Jennifer Aniston have to look forward to! Kerry has revealed that she is divorcing her husband of two years former taxi driver Mark Croft and Jennifer Aniston and singer John Mayer have apparently decided to split after a year together.
Kerry revealed her split by changing her status on facebook to 'single' and was also caught on camera calling her publicist to let him know during filming for her MTV show 'What's the problem'. There's been no official announcementt from camp Aniston as of yet but according to reports from US she's definitely not seeing Mayer anymore.
Hopefully the two newly single ladies are looking forward to spending a weekend doing what blondes do best - Fuuuuuuuuuuuun!!!

Don't forget to listen in to the Big Saturday Show tomorrow morning from ten with Ray Shah and myself for more juicy gossip and entertainment news!
Have a great weekend!!!!

Introduce a gambling tax of ten percent
Allow personalised car plates on cars charge 'yuppies' 500 euro or a grand for the privilege!!

No matter what the idea we want to hear from YOU!!!
You can text us 085 7 102 102 or E-mail us studio@q102.ie
keep up the good work!!!!!!!

For all you hungry people out there

Showbuzz - Katie Holmes; Oh to have the celebs hairdressers!

After months of looking a bit pale, very thin and generally tired it seems that all Katie Holmes was in need of was a trip to the haidressers - celebrity style!!
As you can see Katie arrived in Japan with daughter Suri sporting her usual cropped do but three days later walked the red carpet for Tom Cruise's movie Valkyrie with a brand new FABULOUS do!!!! So glossy and shiney and long and flowy.........not fair!!

Fall Guy...

Having been to Niagra Falls a few years ago, one word comes to mind - Breathtaking....

So here are the "Horseshoe" Falls on the Canadian side:

Over the years several "daredevils" have taken the leap of stupidity over the Falls, in a barrel for instance. To deter any thrill-seekers a law was introduced making it illegal ("stunting without a licence!") to do a "Humpty Dumpty" at Niagra. I think the current penalty is a fine of around $10,000 or prison time.

Well that didn't seem to bother this latest adrenalin junkie who is currently recovering after his 180 foot "trip" down the Falls:

As you can see he went over with nothing on but a smile.....

Fingers crossed he makes a swift recovery.

Ray, Robbie and Juile have an Absolute ball, 'Literally' while working with the Blue Crew in Portmarnock this week!!

Dublin - let's support Earth Hour!

77 Countries, 948 cities and 37 capital cities have signed up to Earth Hour, and Dublin's Q102's On the QT have put Dublin on the map. The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Eibhlin Byrne, Andy Ridley Executive Director of Earth Hour Global, in Sydney, Friends of the Irish Environment and local election candidate Garrett Tubridy, have all supported our campaign to get Dublin to turn off the light at 8.30pm on March 28th. But just how much of an effect could it have, if even half of Dublin turn off all their unnecessary lights for just this one hour this year? Last year Dublin trickled in with their support, so how can we do better this year, and how important is it for everybody to get involved? If you want to get involved simply email qt@q102.ie and we'll put your logo on our website, to show you support this energy saving campaign!

For more info check out the website:
